Ever wanted to make your own candles but figured it was too complex? Think again! Candle-making at home is easier than you assume, and it’s a quirky method for putting your stamp on your decor or making meaningful gifts. Depending on your supplies, you can make beautiful, fragrant candles that illuminate your space. Let us go down a bunny trail in the world of candles!
What You’ll Need?
- Wax (soya, beeswax, paraffin)
- Candle wicks
- Containers resistant to heat (jars, tins, or teacups)
- A double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl
- You are at least on oils and fragrances.
- A thermometer
- A spatula (or wooden spoon for stirring)
Step 1: Get Your Containers Ready

Choose Your Base
- Center the wick in your container.
- Glue it at the bottom with a dab of hot glue or a wick sticker.
- Wrap the top around a pencil or chopstick so that it’s balanced on the rim and keeps the wick standing upright.
Step 2: Melt the Wax

Add a Personal Touch
- Put water in the bottom of a double boiler and put it on medium heat.
- Fill the top pot with wax and allow the wax to melt slowly.
- Microwave the wax if that is applied in shorter intervals and stir between each interval.
Step 3: Cold Process Fragrance & Color

Make it touch a pop-up surprise
- At 170°F (77°C), remove the wax from heat.
- Mix in 10-15 drops of essential oil or fragrance oil per cup of wax.
- Add dye chips or a small piece of crayon for color if desired.
Step 4: Pour the Wax

Decorate the Inside
- Cool the wax to about 140°F (60°C).
- Carefully pour it into your prepared containers.
- Leave a small space at the top so it won’t overflow.
Step 5: Let It Set

- Let the candles cool down and set for at least 4-6 hours.
- Before lighting, trim the wick to about ¼ inch.
Step 6: Enjoy Your Creation

- Pour yourself a cup of tea or a glass of wine (or not!) and enjoy the elegant glow and beautiful scent of a candle.
- Give your handmade candles as gifts or keep them to breathe some light into your home.
